Accommodation

Are you looking for a room in the Maastricht Region? We strongly advise you to start your search early and follow our advice in order to succeed in finding (temporary) accommodation at least a month before your study programme starts. This due to the increasing demand for student housing in The Netherlands. Fortunately, the current situation in our region is not as urgent as in other cities such as Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Rotterdam and Utrecht. Nevertheless, it is important to check out the information below, which will guide you in your search for suitable accommodation.

What are you looking for?

The first thing you want to do is to determine what type of accommodation you’re looking for. Would you prefer private or shared accommodation? Furnished or unfurnished? What is the maximum distance you’d be willing to travel to your campus? And, last but not least, what is your budget? Check our mymaastricht.nl page for all kinds of practical information.

Rent prices

The monthly rent in this region is relatively low, starting from €400 for a room in a student house or a shared apartment. Additional expenses for utilities (gas, electricity and water) are usually not included. If you prefer a private studio or apartment in the private sector, the rent may be significantly higher.

Where should you start your search?

Once you have a rough idea of your preferences, you can start your search. There are quite a few options, ranging from Maastricht HousingStudent-Housing, Housing Corporations, and Agencies, to Antikraak, and Social Media.

Other cities in the Maastricht Region, like Heerlen and Sittard-Geleen, also offer accommodation for students. Check out the Woonpunt housing association or Holland 2 Stay for student housing in Sittard and the Live @ Be studios in Heerlen and Kerkrade.

Short-stay facilities for international (exchange) students

We offer limited (short-stay) furnished accommodation for incoming international exchange students, on a first come, first served basis. If any of these rooms should remain unrented, they may also be offered to regular international students who have been placed on a waiting list following registration. The fixed rental period for rooms for regular students is 1 year (2 semesters).

Important notice

Please note that you should be cautious when searching for accommodation through social media, as those are the channels that scammers tend to target. Be careful of any offers that look too good to be true. In case of doubt or detected fraud, contact Huurteam Zuid Limburg.
