Learn how to write a research report on an academic level. This minor is for you if you are really into doing research and want to do a masters but cannot do the premaster option within Zuyd. You will learn how to adopt an academic perspective, where the added value to research is more important than the practical application in a real-life setting. To this end you will be given a research problem in the field of digital or intercultural communication, a research design, and an instrument. With these tools you will work towards increasing your skills in writing an academic paper.

Sustainability issues play an ever larger role in today’s business, technology and life sciences. We all feel a growing need to reduce social inequality and environmental harm in the world. This minor offers you a helicopter view of this weighty subject through knowledge, ‘real life’ cases, and research-based skills. You will follow a multidisciplinary approach in which you will tackle all kinds of topics related to sustainability in business (ethics, communication, finance, marketing), sustainability in technology (lean production, concept zero/carbon footprint), and sustainability in life sciences (biomaterials, DNA, technology and health). Get an improved understanding of the practical aspects of sustainability issues – in business, technology and life sciences. And enhance your practical and research-based consulting skills in this broad and challenging field. In this minor you – and students from other disciplines – will engage into relevant field work and receive coaching, supervision, and expertise sessions on all the skills a sustainability applied consultant needs. All three scientific fields (business, technology, life sciences) will be integrated in this course – that follows the HILL approach – and will finally come together in a large real life project on the subject of sustainability.

Heb jij een fascinatie met audiovisuele communicatie en wil je je skills op het gebied van vertalen daarvoor inzetten? Dan is dit de minor voor jou. Je krijgt niet alleen het ambacht ondertitelen onder knie, maar je maakt ook kennis met de recente ontwikkelingen op het gebied van audiovisueel vertalen. Verschillende vormen van ondertitelen komen aan bod, zoals ondertitelen voor doven en slechthoren, audiodescriptie, dubbing, automatisch transcriberen, ondertitelen met behulp van machinevertalingen of live ondertitelen. Je leert werken met speciale software en krijgt meer zicht op wat de beroepspraktijk van een ondertitelaar inhoudt.  

Wat weet jij over de wereldwijde perspectieven in je eigen regio? In deze minor verken je de interculturele thema's in de diverse en internationale omgeving van de Euregio. Je gaat begeleid werken aan een eigen creatieve opdracht over een intercultureel onderwerp naar keuze. Je bouwt hiermee voort op theorieën en praktijk in interculturele communicatie. 

Om je interculturele vaardigheden te ontwikkelen, neem je deel aan diverse educatieve activiteiten over dit onderwerp in de vorm van excursies, workshops, gastcolleges, interactieve spellen en theoriesessies. En je draagt zelf bij aan de inhoud van deze minor door je eigen expertise van een gekozen thema te delen en door het organiseren van een passende activiteit om jouw expertise te delen met je collega-studenten. 

Eastern Europe constitutes a large part of Europe. Gaining more insight into the differences between East and West, but also between the various Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries is a must – especially if you have future plans to conduct business in this part of Europe. What happens in CEE, the former socialist region of Russia, affects the shape of the world in the 21st century. In terms of politics, international relations, economics, society, culture, and global security. This minor helps you to understand and analyze the complex identities of CEE countries and acquire a very basic knowledge of conversational Russian.

Een carrière in de Euregio, lijkt je dat wel wat? Dompel jezelf dan onder in de Duitse taal en cultuur. Je leert succesvol samenwerken en communiceren en je verbreedt je kennis over de taal, cultuur en professionele omgeving. Zo kun je straks de do’s en don’ts goed toepassen in je zakelijke contacten en creëer je wederzijds begrip. Deze minor gaat in drie thema’s – ‘Berufswelt’, ‘Wirtschaft und Handel’, ‘Land und Leute’ – dieper in op de Duitse cultuur en maatschappij. Je oefent je spreek-, lees-, luister- en schrijfvaardigheden. Aansluitend kun je eventueel ook nog het internationaal erkende Goethe-certificaat B1 of B2 behalen.

Werken in de Euregio. Als dat je aanspreekt, dan is deze minor iets voor jou. Je oefent je spreek-, lees-, luister- en schrijfvaardigheden en je leert samenwerken en communiceren. Dankzij jouw brede kennis van de zakelijke omgeving in Frankrijk/België ben je in staat om sneller wederzijds begrip te creëren in je zakelijke contacten. Deze minor behandelt drie thema’s: ‘Samenwerken over de grens’, ‘Communiceren in diverse informele en zakelijke situaties’ en ‘Alles over de Franse taal en cultuur in de Euregio en de wereld’. Je sluit je minor af met een excursie naar een Franstalige stad in de Euregio.

This minor is all about challenging ways of critical thinking and working to create the international business of tomorrow. Discover new ways and concepts of doing business, with a human and environmental focus. Dive into Global Green Marketing (marketing strategies, planning, corporate social responsibility), Environmental Communication (promoting your company/brand/products as environmentally responsible), and Stakeholder Management (balancing and protecting the interests of investors, employees, consumers, the community, and the environment). Be a part of the future!

Wil jij ook leren communiceren met gebaren? Dat kan veel betekenen voor het inclusiever maken van onze maatschappij voor doven en slechthorenden. En hoe leuk is het wanneer je met gebaren je verstaanbaar kan maken? Deze minor bestaat uit twee delen: je leert de Nederlandse gebarentaal zodat je bijvoorbeeld op een basisniveau kunt communiceren met dove personen. Je leert onder andere te praten over jezelf en anderen, het beschrijven van situaties en korte gesprekken te voeren. En je leert over de dovengemeenschap en de dovencultuur waarbij bijvoorbeeld historische, culturele en biologische aspecten aan bod komen.  

Maak op actieve en stimulerende wijze kennis met de Spaanstalige taal en wereld. In de werkcolleges (Spaanstalig) oefen je intensief op taalverwerving en maak je kennis met sociaal-culturele aspecten. Het beginniveau is 0, het eindniveau is A2. Je werkt met de boeken ‘Con gusto’. De vorige methode ‘Gente’, waarbij volledig in de doeltaal werd gewerkt, bleek voor velen erg lastig. Bij ‘Con gusto’ is er meer culturele informatie en uitleg in het Nederlands beschikbaar. Na deze minor kun je eventueel deelnemen aan het officiële DELE-tentamen van het Instituto Cervantes voor het verkrijgen van een officieel certificaat.

Are you an International Business (IB) student? Then this minor is right up your sleeve. You can expect an improved understanding of sustainability-related issues in business. Issues regarding sustainable production, consumption, and financial behaviour. In ‘Sustainable Marketing’ you will learn about promotion and communication of responsible products and practises. In ‘Sustainable Finance’ you learn to making decisions allowing for environmental and social considerations. And in ‘Sustainable Supply Chain Management’ you learn how to integrate environmental and financial practises in the entire supply chain – form product design right up to the end consumer.

Ben jij tolkstudent en wil je je verder bekwamen in je tolkvaardigheden? Dan is dit de minor voor jou. Je tolkt in zowel je eerste als tweede vreemde taal. De focus ligt op simultaantolken in de tolkcabines, fluistertolken, consecutief tolken, research opdrachten en mini mock conferences (taaloverstijgend). Je verwerft algemene tolkcompetenties en tolktechnieken zoals het maken van notities, stemgebruik en professioneel gedrag.

At the end of this minor, you will understand the origins, development and causes of modern terrorism. You will be able to explain which criteria are relevant in making someone a terrorist, and how societies (and governments) respond to (as well as try to prevent) terrorism. You will be able to apply this knowledge to contemporary situations.

Vertaaltechnologie is een ‘hot topic’. In deze minor leiden we jou op tot ‘tech savvy’ vertalers en vertaalprojectmanagers. Je ontwikkelt juist die vaardigheden waaraan vandaag de dag behoefte is in de vertaalwereld. Je krijgt een goed beeld van de huidige stand van zaken in de diverse vertaaltechnologieën. Je gaat ‘hands on’ aan de slag met vertaaltechnologische uitdagingen in een professionele context. Denk hierbij aan uitdagingen die komen kijken bij het beheren van complexe vertaalprojecten en bij het vertalen van software, games en ander materiaal. Het bestandsformaat XML, dat in de vertaalwereld veel gebruikt wordt, kent na deze minor geen geheimen meer voor jou. Je kunt met behulp van regular expressions straks moeiteloos complexe vertaalworkflows inrichten. En je leert meer over de plek van machinevertalingen en AI in het vertaalproces en over het efficiënt gebruik ervan. 

You will learn how to find, recognize and apply new insights and opportunities through the smart use of data and visualizations. You will also learn to understand the role of data and visualizations in modern society, how to interpret these data and visualizations properly, and how to deal with this data and visual input (data & visual literacy). All this is based on concrete questions from business practice. The minor consists of a general, knowledge-expanding part (understanding data visually, data as work material, innovation with data) and a case study from business practice which you work on as a team.
