Employee schemes
- Salary
Your salary grade is based on the category to which your role is assigned in the Zuyd job matrix. Once you are employed by Zuyd, you will receive your salary on the 25th of the month at the latest. You will be notified by e-mail that your digital payslip is ready in the HR portal for employees.
- Pension
As an employee of Zuyd, you accrue pension with the pension fund Algemeen Burgerlijk Pensioenfonds (ABP). On the ABP website (in Dutch) you will find all the information you may need about your pension: brochures, forms, and information about the possibility of arranging individual supplements to your pension. Once you are employed by Zuyd, you can consult your digital pension overview via MijnABP. ABP will send you a login code for this.
- Surviving dependant's supplemental pension
Employees of Zuyd can take out a supplemental pension scheme: the Loyalis surviving dependant's supplemental pension. Under this pension scheme, in the event of your death, your partner receives supplemental income until s/he reaches AOW (general old-age pension) age. It is up to you whether you wish to join the scheme. To be eligible for unconditional acceptance, you must send in the application form (in Dutch) within three months of starting work at Zuyd. We will then arrange the deduction of the premiums (in Dutch) from you gross salary. Visit Zuydnet for more information (log in).
- Working days and leave
You arrange your working hours, working days, and start and end times with your supervisor. On a full-time contract you can choose a 36, 38, or 40-hour work week. In some cases, organizational considerations will not allow you to make this choice. If you work more than 36 hours, you will also accrue extra leave. If you work part-time, then we will calculate your work week and your leave in proportion to your FTE rate. Besides the standard days' holiday and other leave, you may in some situations also be entitled to special leave. These include leave for a wedding or death in your family, care leave, emergency leave, or parental leave. You keep a record of your leave yourself on your leave entitlement card. There are two types of leave entitlement cards; one for teaching staff and one for support staff. Your manager will give you your leave entitlement card.
- Insurance
As an employee of Zuyd, you can participate in the collective health insurance scheme which Zuyd has taken out with Zilveren Kruis. Further information about this can be found on the Zilveren Kruis website. Zuyd's group number can be requested from your HR officer. For all employees, we have taken out collective insurance for occupational disability, collective accident insurance (during work and travel time), and collective travel insurance (for business travel in connection with work).
- Travel and transport
Zuyd encourages environmentally-friendly forms of transport such as cycling, public transport, and carpooling. We offer generous allowances for these forms of transport. However, if you travel to work by car, you are eligible for reimbursement for your commuting expenses. As a Zuyd employee, twice a year you have the opportunity to choose between the cycling, public transport, or car scheme. If you visit another Zuyd location in connection with your work, your travel expenses will be reimbursed. You can submit expense claims via the HR portal.
- Cross-border worker or expat?
If you live outside the Netherlands – in Belgium or Germany, for instance – and work in the Netherlands, or if you work in both countries, you are a cross-border worker and will need to deal with rules and obligations in different countries. The personal implications for you are not always clear. The HR International Service Desk can advise you, so don't hesitate to get in touch.
Foreign employees and guest lecturers (expats) can contact the Expat Center Maastricht Region for guidance and information about living and working in the Netherlands.
- Sustainable career deployment (SCD), career and development
We believe it is important that you are sustainably deployed, but also that you take some of the responsibility for this. You should therefore give regular consideration to your wishes (including development wishes), possibilities, and life events, as well as your career deployment in future. You can use the hours for various purposes. You agree the purpose of your SCD hours with your supervisor during the annual performance and assessment review.
You can use workshops, advice, tests, and other tools to help you develop personally and professionally. There is also the option of attending courses and training sessions run by Zuyd Professional (in Dutch). HR Services organizes lecturer professionalization courses specifically for lecturers.
- Healthy working conditions
New employees are always invited to have a workplace check by the Prevention Centre Health, a training organization of Zuyd's programmes of Health Care. The Prevention Centre Health can also arrange health checks or training sessions under the Zuydfit programme. You can also make use of a company fitness scheme and exercise at a discount at a fitness centre near you.
